Why?
Originally located in rented quarters on Fruitville Road when we opened in 2002, Designing Women Boutique acquired our own space in the Roskamp Center on North Tamiami Trail in April of 2005. Owning the property is the shop's growth strategy. According to founder and President Jean Weidner, "It means that we – not a landlord – can direct our future. It makes it possible for us to give more dollars to the community. And that's what we're all about, after all."
The new location has twice as much selling space and the shop has a five-year Capital Campaign to pay for it. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the success of the events that support our Campaign, we are well ahead of schedule in paying off our original mortgage.
Our business is also growing rapidly, particularly in home furnishings accents, accessories and antiques, and we have just acquired an additional 1000 square feet for a home furnishings showroom adjoining our present space.
